Finishing Up a Great Week
1/7/2010 7pm CST
This morning the team went out to the Paradise barrio. The name is very incongruous as this is one of the poorest areas that Chosen Children works at. The team went door to door into the village inviting the children to the sports activities and Bible lesson. During this time circulating through the many small huts at least one person prayed to accept Jesus. We are very...
A Top Notch Experience
1/6/2010 4:30pm CST
The team spent time at the Chosen children orphanage in Juigalpa today. The time with the children there was very good. The team members are doing well and their spirits and team unity is very good. They are a great group of young adults having a wonderful time experiencing God at work in a different part of the world. What a wonderful snapshot of why Catalyst exists.

What's up in Mexico.
We went to Teotihuacan this Saturday. The pyramids there are totally amazing. The fact that they have been there so long and that God made people that smart to build them is amazing. Tonight we went to the “asylum” or nursing home again. We were taken on a tour by Luis who is a member of the local church we have visited. We actually had the privilege of seeing him baptized two weeks...
Another week finished!
We are very thankful for the weekend. The children, under Colleen’s teaching are all learning and staying sharp on their studies, which will help them when school starts in the fall. They also have some extra classes taught by the kids. ShaeLynn is teaching all the kids Spanish, Robert is teaching history and Robbie is teaching Geography. Today we’ll all go out to visit with people on...
A new week.
We had a good first week at Spanish class. Please continue to pray that we can absorb all that we are being taught. We had a great weekend. Saturday the Mehlhorn’s roamed around town meeting people and seeing more of the sights. The Rickert family and Coleen caught a taxi to a town just over the mountains called Deloros Hildago. It was a great adventure. Today the Mehlhorns and the college...
The rest of the team is in safe.
Yesterday we got up early and took Rachel to the airport in Leon. She was a huge help with her Spanish skills in helping us in so many ways, so we’re on our own now. She got off safe and then several hours later the Mehlhorn family arrived. It was great to have them in safe and sound.
This morning we called for a cab and rode back to the little church. It took two taxies to haul us all to...

We've arrived at Esperanza Viva in Puebla.
After about eight hours on the road we made it to Puebla. Some of our journey was very exciting as we clipped the edge of Mexico City. God provided several people willing to help answer our requests for directions. We are looking forward to our day at the orphanage tomorrow. We really felt your prayers for us today and God answered them wonderfully!
Wonderful day.
This morning we attended a great little church called Rios de Eden. After some very energetic worship and a good message we headed back home for a late lunch. We then traveled part of the scenic drive on the mountain ridges around Guanajuato. It was amazing, and at times even breathtaking and heartbreaking at the same time. Thousands of houses are stacked on top of each other simply clinging to...
We've arrived.
Praise God! Were at the beautiful house that will be ours for the next five weeks. All the luggage made it and there were no major difficulties in the flights. We can defenitly tell we’re in Mexico as we can hear the music from a party a few blocks away. The weather is cool and there is a nice rain freshening the air. Were so thankful for all your partnership and prayers and are greteful to...

By this time Friday eight members from out team will be headed south. We are very excited to have this opportunity to join in God’s task of global missions. Please continue to pray for health and safety. Colleen has had a bad bug of some sort for the past week or so. Pray for strength and continued healing for her. We praise God for His provision and know that He has preceded us on this...

An Afformation of why Catalyst works with Churches...
“The best way to raise congregational vision, in truth, is also through participation in short-term missions efforts. Nothing speaks more clearly than firsthand exposure and hands-on involvement. Those who participate and return must be mobilized as participants in the cause of world missions. This is the seedbed out of which lay initiative can emerge.” From Changing the Mind of Missions by James...
Gospel Seed Planting
I’ve been meditating deeply on issues of contextualizing the Gospel into different cultures. Chew on this quote with me. “The Gospel is to be planted as a seed that will sprout within and be nourished by the rain and nutrients in the cultural soil of the receiving people. What sprouts from true gospel seed may look quite different above ground from the way it looked in the sending...

Ice Storm Disaster Response
Catalyst is mobilizing to assist needy families that have come south into Tennessee from Kentucky. We have run into a need of literally refugees that have come to Union City, TN from the Clinton and Hickman Kentucky areas. I talked to a couple last night, Mike and Betsy, they were told by authorities that it would be at least March 1 or later before power is restored on their road, much less their...

Home Safe!
Well the entire team of 30 people all made their connections out of Nicaragua. Eighteen people came through Houston and twelve came through Miami. We thank you all for your prayers. The stories of what God accomplished are truly amazing. We’ll put up pictures and some of the stories here (http://catalystmissions.org/nic-01-09.php) as soon as we can.
God's Amazing work.
The team working with the pastors’ wives had thirty-three ladies in attendance today. It was a tremendous priviledge to see and hear the ladies soaking up the Word. They asked many specific questions during practical lessons. The team working at Salinas Garande had about 60 children they worked with. The Bible story and memory verses focused on the grace of God. Seven children accepted...
Another day, blessed by God.
Praise God for another amazing day. Today the agriculture team was able to install the irrigation system on the first field. Praise God! It is very exciting to see the partnership of so many people, including the donors and prayer partners nearing completion. Tomorrow they plan to run the pump and test the system. They also had about a dozen pastors show up again today for Bible teaching and...
Day two.
This morning the agricultural team headed out to check on a field that they hope to work at. After everyone had breakfast we all climbed aboard the vans and bus and headed west toward Salinas Grandes. Meanwhile, the agricultural team headed off to Leon to pickup the last supplies that they determined they needed to complete the development of the fields. Twenty pastor’s wives attended the...
First Day
The team had a good nights rest in Masaya and a good team meeting and worship time this morning. At 11am we piled into the vehicles and drove to to the Chosen Children base just south of Leon. After unloading and a bite of lunch we headed out to look over the locations where we will be doing ministry. The team is in great spirits and plans for how we’ll execute our agenda are solidifying....
Safe Arrival for All!
Praise God! The entire team arrived safe and sound in Nicaragua! We’ve cleared Immigration, collected all our bags and made it through Customs. Now, after a little drive to the Masaya base, a bite to eat and a few quick announcements we’re all headed for bed. 12:17am 1/4/09
Awaiting final flight departure.
Praise God! All the team members have arrived at their final domestic departure points. Twelve of us await departure from Miami while seventeen have boarded in Houston. It is miracle that God got all of us together with so many people coming from so many places. Many of us are tired after starting the day about 2am, and a small hiccup waiting on the flight crew will make it a late night. However,...
One Day to Go
There is just a day to go before the team will begin their journey. God has marvelously provided for the team members. I’ve already heard some wonderful stories of His moving hearts to provide for the team. Keep praying! Not only for the team, but also for their families, financial and prayer supporters, and the churches and friends that are also part of this wonderful trip which is designed...

One week to go!
A week from tomorow 31 of us fly from all over the US to serve in Nicaragua. Pray for all the final details that need to be completed. Pray that God will provide the remaining finances for the team members that are still short. Pray that God will prepare our hearts as we get ready to serve. Pray for on time flights for all the team departing from locations across the US. Praise God for His...
Why Missions?
Did you know that 35% of the 6.8 billion people on earth are classified as UNREACHED! (source “Mission Maker” mag 2009) That figure keeps me passionate about global missions! Kris Rickert 12/07/08
